This post came to me in light of the recent elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT, as well as other tragic events of the same nature. Where’s the question that has been killing me inside for quite some time. . .How come almost every, single time you turn on the local (or national) news; you always hear something negative?
I mean seriously, think about it. 9 times out of 10 all you hear about is somebody getting killed, another mass shooting taking place in another random city, school, mall, or God knows where else! And for what!? Fucking nothing at all, or because the gunmen had some recent minor setback in life or some shit!
And if it’s not another shooting or murder of some kind; then you’re hearing about some fucking natural disaster that demolished half a state in minutes, instantaneously labeling it as yet, another ‘Disaster Area’.
Then, if that’s not enough, you hear about how many more soldiers, barely 21yrs old, have lost their lives in this senseless ass-war because they’ve completed 3, 4, 5, or more tours of duty! Or if it’s not that, then it’s a poor family losing their home or something in house fire, or if it’s not that, then you hear about a baby or young child being abducted from their bedroom in the middle of the night. And to add further insult to injury, you turn on the news and hear about a freaking priest molesting little boys and shit! WTF!?
Where are the stories about how many soldiers made it home, or the stories about a homeless family recieving a new house, or how a near-tragedy was prevented. Where are the stories about new jobs being created, or stories about how our kids/students are beginning to excel academically on a global level. Where are the stories about how we, as a nation, may be in a position to climb out of this recession once and for all, or the stories about people getting OUT of foreclosure and KEEPING their homes instead of losing them! Where the fuck are those stories!?
